Socio-economic precariousness and isolation of the small farmer in the current Ecuador

Abstract

The objective of this article is to examine, from a Marxist perspective, the peculiarities of the agricultural sector and of the small farmer in the current Ecuador. To this end, the main ideas related to the subject, exposed by Marx and Engels, will be valued primarily, revealing additionally the ones of Kautsky and Lenin; furthermore displaying the conceptions deployed by Chayanov, Shanin and Wolf, as well as authors like A. Quijano, E. Dussel and Catherine Walsh, who contributed to the understanding of the singularity of this region, by approaching the phenomenon of colonialism, interculturism and transmodernity. Secondly and thirdly, the peculiarities of the agricultural sector and small peasant in Latin America and the Ecuador will be approached respectively, places where this productive system and social sector continue having a predominant role.
