Brazil: The comeback of the right-wing

Abstract

This paper aims to understand which were the circumstances that led to the election of right-wing radical candidate Jair Bolsonaro as Brazil's president. For this, this result is analyzed -result which seems to put an end to the nova República and the threat of a coup d'état, whose preparation began in at least 2014- as well as the meaning and the reach of such result.

The paper is divided into three parts. The first one, dedicated to the factors and decisive variables that led the country to choose a right-wing radical candidate as president. The second part deals with the results of the election in terms of the composition of the deputies' and senators' chambers, as well as the new ministers' profiles. And in the last part main conclusions are presented.
