Abstract

This paper provides a conceptual definition of artisanal river fishing. It then examines its integration into various value chains. Possible measurements and quantitative analyses for the entire Paraná River basin are presented. The paper then discusses the shortcomings of quantitative methodology for understanding this economic realm. Following this, a qualitative description and analysis of the fishing economy is developed. The approach shifts from quantitative to qualitative, focusing first on the province of Santa Fe and then on the city of Rosario.
