Impact of the pandemic on Jujuy. Employment and its transformations in response to COVID-19

Abstract

With the outbreak of the pandemic in early 2020, governments around the world made a series of decisions to contain the spread of COVID-19. Lockdowns reduced the burden on the healthcare sector and saved lives, but also deepened the economic crisis that Argentina has been experiencing for years. This study analyzes how the pandemic has impacted employment in Jujuy, considering economic activity and evaluating the influence of the phases that COVID-19 went through locally. It is postulated that the severity of isolation and its duration over time are determining factors in assessing the impact of the pandemic, as well as the varying degrees of vulnerability of certain occupations and workers to the negative effects of the health crisis.
