Abstract

These notes aim to problematize some aspects of the International Financial System (IFS) in general, and the role it has played and how it has been expressed in the economy and society, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The initial section sets out a horizon and basic coordinates of the SFI's presence in general; section 2 presents how it has been imposing its power over the economy and, to a large extent, over society. The following section concentrates on the argument that SFI has been dominated by investment Fund Managers (AFIs); section 4 discusses some aspects of their operation; the following section deals with one of the mechanisms that have allowed
private interests to be present in the public sector; section 6 refers to how the above processes create the conditions for SFI interests to be above suspicion in order to achieve their goals. Section 7 situates the presence of SFI in LAC, and the following section mentions the presence of banking in the region. lastly, some considerations.
