Since agrarian modernisation, the fall in rural labour and the predominance of labour in trade and service areas have been verified. This was a common process for the entire area, but the geographical location and prior economic conditions marked differences. In the port-city, the economically active population increased with a larger influence of industrial work. In the service-city, the contraction of agrarian work was not compensated by other activity. The contracted labour market favoured the conditions of precarious labour relationships
