University Facilities: A Territorial Approach Based on the Campus Buildings of the National University of José C. Paz (UNPAZ)
Keywords:
University, Territory, Socio-urban context, University facilitiesAbstract
This article examines university infrastructures and their urban implications. Specifically, it addresses the emergence of the National University of José C. Paz (UNPAZ) in the district (partido) of the same name, and the relationship within the urban fabric between its two campus sites: the Central Headquarters and the Faculty of Medicine building. The unique characteristic of this university is its location in one of the municipalities of the Greater Buenos Aires area (conurbano bonaerense) with the highest levels of impoverishment and urban inequality. Consequently, its physical construction and operation in José C. Paz provide a special value to a historically marginalized territory. This study is conducted from an urban perspective using a qualitative approach, supported by in situ observations as well as photographic and cartographic records.
