Worker participation in the adoption of technological change

Abstract

This article analyzes how worker participation, through trade unions or other mechanisms, can influence the adoption of technological change in the manufacturing industry, with a particular focus on the metalworking sector. Through a conceptual and comparative analysis of experiences in Europe and Latin America, the study highlights how institutional frameworks, collective bargaining, and worker intervention shape the form, pace, and consequences of technological adoption. Such participation can mitigate the risks and enhance the benefits associated with technological change.
