Abstract

This study analyzes state transformations by tracking consolidated public spending (National + Provincial + Municipal) between 1980 and 2022. This period is particularly interesting as it encompasses elements of three distinct historical phases: the final moments of the Keynesian/Welfare State era, the neoliberal cycle, and the national-popular period. The data presented allow us to observe the evolution—both in absolute and relative terms—of the different purposes and functions undertaken by the State. In this sense, they provide an initial response to our question regarding the main areas of focus of the Argentine State during the period under study.
