Abstract

This article analyzes the trajectory of the Software and IT Services (SITS) sector in Argentina from a comparative perspective with two other SITS-producing countries: Germany and Australia. The study identifies different stages in the historical development of the sector at a global level, leading up to the current integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the production process. It traces the sector’s evolution in the three countries, situating its emergence within these stages and comparing them using quantitative indicators. The results highlight the synchronization of national developments with global trends, the key role of local productive linkages in building capabilities, the importance of exports, and the strategic role assigned to the sector by public policies. However, the Argentine case presents particularities that have shaped its current profile, such as the sector’s late development, weaker integration with the local productive apparatus, and a different approach to promotional policies.
