This article presents the progress of an ongoing research project on the 1988 teachers’ strike, a pivotal event that has received little attention in academic literature despite its significance for understanding the foundations of teachers’ unionism in a key moment preceding the rise of neoliberalism in Argentina. First, drawing from the research experience itself, the article offers a set of theoretical reflections on archives and the communicability of knowledge, informed by critical perspectives from the social sciences and humanities. Second, it provides a thorough literature review on the drivers of the teachers’ conflict, helping to explain why the struggle intensified among education workers. Finally, it reflects on the aesthetic and epistemological potential of press photography, not only for advancing the study but also for developing tools for the public communication of science.
