Abstract

The period from the market reforms of the 1990s to post-convertibility led to important transformations in the electricity sector: privatization paved the way for joint participation between local capital, foreign companies and financial institutions in the business opportunities that were created after the disposition of the former public enterprises. The reorientation of state intervention and the partial withdrawal of foreign capital during the post-convertibility period, enabled new companies and business groups to participate. the objective of this article is to analyze these changes by investigating the strategies and cooperation of local and foreign companies that became the leaders of privatized business units, as well as the role that state institutions played in the organization of the sector during the years under study.
